GIBBS, HAZEL MARIE MIKELS

Hazel Marie Mikels Gibbs, 93, a long time resident of Pocatello, died September 20, 1990 in the Hillcrest Haven Nursing Center.

Mrs. Gibbs was born January 7, 1897 in Kokomo, Indiana, a daughter of Cyrus Everett and mary Ann Breedlove Mikels. She attended school in Kokomo and made her home there until 1920 when she came to Provo, Utah. A year later she moved to Logan, and was married there to Will Goldlen Zundel Gibbs in the Logan LDS Temple, October 25, 1922. Mr. Gibbs preceded her in death, May 7, 1983.

They came to Pocatello and resided here for several years, then in Tyhee until 1940 when they returned to Pocatello. Mrs. Gibbs was a charter member of the Tyhee Rook Club and enjoyed her association with those friends.

She was a devout Latter-day Saint. She devoted her adult life to her church, family and friends. She served as president of the Relief Society, president and counselor in Sunday School, Primary president, stake missionary and as a missionary in the Indiana/Kentucky mission 1974-75.

Her keen interest and devotion to genealogy touched her family, friends and church associates. She and her husband had made it a practice to regularly attend temple sessions.

Also, Mrs. Gibbs enjoyed gardening and flowers and crocheting, especially afghans.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Alvin (Mary Elizabeth) Wardle, Logan, UT; two grandchildren, Lindalee Edwards, Newark, CA; John Wardle, Wilber, NB; seven great grandchildren and one sister, Ethel Bean, Circleville, UT. She was preceded in death by a son, William Albert Gibbs, who died as an infant, and a brother.

Funeral services were held September 24 in the Manning Funeral Chapel with Bishop David Horrocks officiating. Interment was in the Mountainview Cemetery.
