I, Mitchell, being the oldest living son, feel it a duty and a privilege to complete my mother’s life story.
In reading her history, I think she has been very modest in telling all her true feelings towards her family and everyone she came in contact with. There never was a woman with more compassion and understanding then she was, in my eyes anyways. She never spoke a cross word, but I could always sense displeasure in her face whenever we did wrong, but also, she always spoke encouragement for us to do better. She always had a prayer in her heart for our well being.
When she made friends she always cherished them and kept in close contact with them as shown in the many letters, cards and visits she wrote and received in her later years. At her funeral, and even to this day, people who remember her still speak well of her with great respect, love and admiration.
I would like to mention too that other than leaving a living monument of love and faith in God to us as children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, she had another love for the community and civic desire to improve the conditions around her. While a member of the Civic Betterment and Native Daughter, she was instrumental in securing Pioneer Park which is enjoyed by so many of us in Malad and many coming back to visit Malad.
When I was in the hospital, as mentioned in her life story, I had a patriarchal blessing. I was told in part that I would live to be a comfort and a blessing to her the rest of her life. I never thought much about that until after she passed away. As circumstances were, Ben and Milton had moved away, but were very thoughtful of her. I lived close by and I tried to watch and care for her as much as I could. I believe that my blessing came true because something urged me that day to call on her just two minutes before she became ill. Within an hour and a half, she passed away on April 13, 1964, leaving her family with equal love and devotion and an example we should all strive to attain.
God Bless Her memory!
