GOMER HUGHES (death date noted as 05 Dec 1940)

Funeral services were held Monday at the Malad First ward chapel for Gomer Hughes, 62, who died at his home on Friday after a lingering illness. George Ward of the First Ward bishopric presided at the services at which speakers were: J. Peter Jensen, David Roberts of Salt Lake city, David Cowley of Logan and George Ward.

Musical numbers were given by Howell Williams, Mrs. Mararet [Margaret] E. Jones, who gave vocal solos and a violin duet by Mrs. Golden Willie and Mrs. Owen Howard accompanied by Mrs. S. A. Hendricks. Invocation was given by W.H. Palmer and benediction by H.I. Mills. Interment was in the Malad cemetery with J.H. Drede [Dredge] dedicating the grave.

Gomer Hughes was born Dec. 2, 1878, in Samaria, the son of Gomer and Jane Hughes, early Malad valley settlers. He was married on Dec. 21, 1904, to Mary E. Bolingbroke and they become the parents of eight children, all of whom survive Mr. Hughes was an active member of the L.D.S. Church.

Surviving are his wife and the following children: Henry Hughes, Mrs. Thelma Call and Miss Mary Jean Hughes of Malad; Mrs. Edith Atkinson of Samaria, Mrs. Ted Dorius, Miss Phyllis Hughes and Miss Reva Hughes of Salt Lake City; and Ellis Hughes of the U.S. Navy, who is at present enroute to the Hawaiian islands.

The following brothers and sisters also survive: David Hughes and Dan Hughes of Samaria; Mrs. Margaret Williams of Idaho Falls; Mrs. Caddy Cowley of Logan, Robert Hughes of Salt Lake City and Roland Hughes of California.

Out of town people who came for the services included: Mrs. Margaret Williams and son and Mrs. Williams and two sons of Idaho Falls; Mr. and Mrs. David Cowley of Logan; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hughes and David Roberts of Salt Lake City; J.H. Bolingbroke and Mr. and Mrs. John Bolingbroke Jr., of Arbon; Mrs. Rufus Lawson, Mrs. Edison Jones, and Mr. and Mrs. Eph Bolingbroke of Pocatello.
