CLEARFIELD, UT – Our loving husband, father and grandfather, George Edmund Thomas, passed away January 28, 2002 in Clearfield from causes incident to age.

He was born September 2, 1921 in Virginia, ID to John Elias Thomas and Persis Amanda Brown. He was the fifth born of six children. George spent the majority of his growing up years in McCammon, ID where he attended school and graduated from McCammon High School.

George is a member of the LDS Church.

He married his sweetheart of 60 years, Betty Price, in Pocatello, ID on January 28, 1942. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple in 1952. Together they have raised four children.

George loved fishing and hunting with his children, grandchildren, brothers and friends. He enjoyed all sports and played all sports in high school, where he excelled in basketball. He especially loved watching his children and grandchildren play all sports and he and Betty were their two biggest fans.

He also loved to read and was a history buff. He loved his country, and was a World War II veteran, having served in Okinawa during that way. He was employed with Hill Air Force Base for 37 years and after his retirement there he attained his real estate license and worked out of his home selling for Stevenson’s Real Estate.

As a hobby he used his welding talent to build flag poles for neighbors, friends and relatives. Because of this endeavor, George was presented with the Citizenship and Patriotism award in July, 1991 by the North Davis County Rotary.

George is survived by his loving wife, Betty and four children: Errol (Nedra) Thomas, Clearfield, UT; Vera (Legrand) Olsen, Bountiful, UT; Betty (Dennis) Morrison, Albuquerque, NM; and John Thomas, Clearfield, UT. He is also survived by one brother, LaVoy, Idaho Falls; nine grandsons; nine granddaughters and 17 great grandchildren. he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Elmer and Stanley and two sisters, Helen Cannon and Marjorie Rowe.

Funeral services will be held February 1 at Lindquist Mortuary, Clearfield, UT.

The family would like to thank the staff at Rocky Mountain Care Center and Dr. Burtenshaw at Tanner Clinic for their care for George during the past year.
