George Cook (Birth – 28 Jan 1828)

Pioneer and Veteran closes honored career at 78.

Willard, Box Elder Co., Jan. 7,–On Monday night, Jan. 1, 1906, Geo. Cook died of general debility at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Brunker.

Deceased was born Jan 28, 1828, at Brabourne, Kent, Eng. In 1850 he accepted the Gospel and was baptized. In 1854 in married Hannah Burrows and the same year they emigrated to Utah. While sailing up the Mississippi river, the cholera broke out among the company and many died. After many hardships incident to crossing the plains with ox teams they reached Utah in the fall of 1854. The first winter was spent at Bountiful. In 1855 they moved to Ogden and in 1859 settled in Willard, where deceased has since resided. For nearly 50 years he was a faithful teacher in the Willard ward. He was the father of eight children, five of whom and his loved wife preceded him to the grave. Deceased was of a most gentle and loving disposition, even his nearest friends never saw him angered. His warm and genial nature endeared him to all.

Funeral services were held on the 4th inst., and were largely attended. Relatives from Idaho and Ogden, and the president of the stake and others from Brigham attending.
