Gene H. Capener (Birth – April 5, 1926)

Bountiful – Gene H. Capener, 61, of Bountiful, formerly of Malad, Idaho died October 21, 1987 in Bountiful of cardiac arrest.

He was born April 5, 1926 in Preston, Idaho to Llewelluyn and Viola Gunn Capener. He married Theresa Spencer in Boise, Idaho on September 9, 1950; the marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. He was a member of the LDS Church and at the time of his death was a High Priest in the Bountiful 11th Ward. For many years he owned and operated the Malad Drive Inn Restaurant before moving to Utah. He was an avid sports fan. He belonged to the Cougar Club for many years.

Survivors include: his widow, Bountiful; one daughter, Mrs. Sheldon (Karla) Thornock, Layton; four grandchildren; also surviving are two brothers and two sisters, a twin, Jay H. Capener, Bountiful; Richard L. Capener, Bountiful; and Mrs. Reed (Pat) Dowdle, Bridgewater, Massachusetts; Mrs. John (Helen) Batis, Tremonton, He was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie.

Services were held Monday, October 26, at 11 a.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary with Bishop James R. Ivins conducting. Interment, Farmington City Cemetery.
