Franklin Wight, 87, died Monday, September 21, 2009 at his home from complications following surgery.
He was born January 3, 1922 in Malad, Idaho, a son of Lyman Alma and Mary Elnora Bennett Wight.
Frank married his sweetheart, Fern Nielsen, on July 15, 1943 in Logan, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple, Fern preceded him in death on February 7, 2009. He missed her so much, and we are certain they have had a very joyous reunion.
Frank was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He held many positions throughout his life including Bishop, a member of the Weber Utah Stake Presidency, and was currently serving as a sealer in the Ogden Temple. He cherished the time he and his wife served as directors of the Independence Missouri Visitor’s Center.
He served his country during WW11 with the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Frank worked in the banking industry for approximately 40 years. He held positions from teller up to and including bank president. He was affiliated with First Security Bank, Citizens National Bank, Zion’s National Bank, Weber Valley Bank, and Valley Bank & Trust. Frank was able to build friendship and trust with his customers as he served their banking needs.
Frank enjoyed woodworking, specializing in building miniature log cabins, painting, traveling and watching sporting events. He served as President of the Kiwanis and Lions Clubs. Frank had friends wherever he went. He had a great sense of humor. He never wanted a long obituary. He requested only five words “Frank died, Lincoln for sale”. Frank was a dedicated family man. His greatest love was his family.
Surviving are three sons and one daughter, Timothy N. (JoD’Ann) Wight, Thomas N. (Karen) Wight, Debora Fern (David) Cowdin, 27 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Alice (Don) Williams and Helen (Preston) Keller, and two sisters-in-law, Betty Wight and Verna Darrow.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Fern, his brother, Lyman B. Wight, and grandson, Thomas Brody Wight.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant Valley 5th Ward Chapel, 5735 S. Crestwood Dr.
Friends may call at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary 3408 Washington Blvd., on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday at the Ward Chapel 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Malad, Idaho City Cemetery.
