FERN JONES GREER

Fern Jones Greer, 85, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2011. She was born in Cherry Creek, Idaho on April 24, 1925, a daughter of John Benjamin and Veda Eggleston Jones.

She attended school in Malad, Idaho. She married Gene Austin Greer on August 14, 1943. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Gene passed away on December 3, 2008. They were married for 65 years, living in South Weber for 60 of those years.

Fern worked at the Defense Depot in Ogden, during World War II, and for many years as a bus aide and assistant head start teacher in the Davis County School District where she touched the lives of adults and children alike. She enjoyed reading, painting and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved nature and had an abiding appreciation for God’s creation.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities. She was a gifted teacher and beloved youth leader and mentor.

She is survived by her four daughters: Julie (Melvin) Wise, Montpelier, ID; Dixie (Sander) Bybee, Blackfoot, ID; Donna (Dean) Tolman, South Weber, UT; and Jane (Brent) Johnson, Cedar City, UT, 18 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers: jack Jones, Blackfoot, ID; Gerald Jones, South Ogden, UT; and sisters Edna Thorpe, Layton, UT and Melba Bloxham, Downey, ID, and sister-in-law Barbara Jones, Malad, ID.

Fern was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers: Woodrow Jones, William (Billy) Jones, and sister, Donna Wilde.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Julie, Angel and Steve from Access Hospice and the staff and residents of Mountain View Health Services for their love and care during the last year and a half.

Funeral services were held February 7, 2011 at the South Weber 1st Ward, South Weber, UT. Interment was in the Cherry Creek Cemetery.
