Fern Hughes, 60, of Blackfoot passed away peacefully October 20, 2021 surrounded by loved ones at St. Luke’s Magic Valley Hospital in Twin Falls.

Fern was born December 28, 1960 in Pocatello, Idaho to Morris and Beverly Chacon. She was the 8th out of 11 kids. She was raised in Pocatello before moving to Blackfoot at the age of 16. Fern was on the drill team and loved being a Bronco, and graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1979. She took great pride in the fact that her youngest daughter, Aubree, is set to graduate this year from the same school.

After graduating high school, Fern attended Ricks College where she married the father of her first three children. They moved to Cache Valley in 1980. In October of 1981 she became a mom with the birth of her son, Phillip. Joshua was born in 1983, and Angie was born in 1986.

Fern later attended Utah State University where she graduated with honors in 1996. Her degree in Social Work brought her home to eastern Idaho. Fern’s degree would allow her to explore many different aspects of social work but she found the most joy in working in hospice.

In 2004, she met the love of her life, Randy. They were married September 23, 2006. Fern, Randy, and Randy’s youngest daughter Aubree were sealed for eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple on October 18, 2014.

Fern was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of the gospel and served in various callings throughout her life.

Fern loved being a mom. The only thing she loved more was being a grandma. She had six grandchildren that she adored.
