EVAN W. JONES

Evan William Jones, 78, of St. John died Thursday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Annella Price, following a two years’ illness.

The prayer at the home was offered by Bishop Arch Harris.

Invocation at the church was by Weldon Jensen and the benediction by T. F. Budge. Speakers were John Blaisdell and James B. Jones. The obituary was given by Bish/op Melvin Yearsley. Musical numbers were a vocal solo, Keith Evans; violin duet, Mrs. Golden Willie and Mrs. Spencer Hill; song, sextet comprised of Theone Rees, Aniece Alder, Verna Allen, Norma Gleed and Carol Willie accompanied by Mrs. Marteal Hendricks. Prelude and postlude music was played by Mrs. Andie Talbot. Grave dedication was by Jay Jensen.

Mr. Jones was born June 7, 1874 at St. John, a son of David C. and Mary Stephens Jones. He was reared and educated in St. John and resided there all of his life. He married Mary Evans at Malad on May 29, 1895. She died March 25, 1939. Mr. Jones was the first child born at St. John. He was a farmer and stock grower and well known throughout Malad Valley as a musician. He was a member of the St. John ward, L.D.S. church.

Surviving are the following sons and daughters, Mrs. Mary Thomas and Mrs. Annela Price, Malad; Edward E. Jones, Pocatello; Sarah Price Blackfoot; Evan E. Jones, Pocatello; Mrs. Mabel Butner, Danville, Calif; Mrs. Alice Helppie, El Paso, Texas; Mrs. Vera Welker, Logan, Utah; Mrs. Wilda Thompson, San Lorenzo, California; Mrs. Thelma Rockwell, Oakland, California; also 30 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and four sisters: Mrs. Anne Lewis, Mrs. Jane Larson, Mrs. Mary (continued on last page…)
