ERNEST DAVID PALMER

Farm Accident Takes Life of Ernest D. Palmer

A farm accident Tuesday evening claimed the life of six-year-old Ernest David Palmer when he was crushed beneath a tractor on his parents’ farm five miles west of Malad.

John A. Evans, Oneida county sheriff who was summoned to the scene, reported that the accident occurred while the tractor was being parked. Jenkin L. Palmer, the boy’s father, gave another son, Tommy 9, permission to drive the tractor across the yard after it had been used for farm work. The victim ran to the tractor and attempted to get on it after it had stopped but had not yet been shut off. As Ernest slipped from the machine and fell behind it the clutch became engaged and the tractor crushed his body as it backed over him.

The boy was born July 7, 1943 at Ogden, Utah, a son of Jenkin L. and Sarah L. Palmer, and was a first grader in the Malad public schools. Survivors include his parents; brother, Tommy; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Ella Thomas, and paternal grandfather, W. H. Palmer, all of Malad.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, at the Malad Reorganized L.D.S. Chapel.
