Emma Thorpe Gleed

GLEED, EMMA THORPE, December 24, 1886 – February 28, 1934

Emma Thorpe Gleed, 47, died February 28, 1934 in the Dee Hospital at Ogden, Utah from Toxic Adenomatous Goiter. She was born December 24, 1886 at Samaria, Oneida, Idaho to Samuel and Annabella Memmott Thorpe. She attended grade school in Samaria until the death of her mother on October 23, 1900, at which time she was taken out of school to help her father care for the family.

Her father died March 29, 1901 and the children were taken into the homes of relatives and friends and Emma started working for her board and keep at the home of John E. Jones at Gwenford, Idaho.

She married Henry Gleed, August 29, 1905 at Malad, Oneida, Idaho. They lived in Malad the first year, then moved to a one room log cabin on a homestead in New Canyon.

She was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 7, 1894 and was very active during her teenage years.

She is survived by her husband, Henry Gleed of Malad and three sons: Hubert S. Gleed, Henry L. Gled and John Clifford Gleed, six daughters: Mrs. Frank (Anna Bell) Williams, Vera Gleed, Edith Gleed, Leola Gleed, Erma Gleed and Carol Dean Gleed. Also, two grandsons: Frank D. Williams, Jr. and Norman H. Gleed.

Services will be held March 3, 1934 in the Malad First Ward Chapel with Bishop Jessie H. Dredge officiating. Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery. Funeral arrangements will be under the direction of the Benson Funeral Home in Malad, Idaho.
