Funeral Services For Mrs. Emma Hughes

Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Smith Hughes, 71, who died at her home April 8, after a lingering illness, were held Monday afternoon at the Samaria L.D.S. ward chapel. Bishop Carl Evans presided.
Prayer at the home was by Daniel M. Williams and the invocation by Samuel Williams. Speakers were D.M. Price, J.M. Isaacson and Bishop Evans. Musical numbers consisted of a vocal duet, Wanda Napier and Mrs. Aseal John accompanied by Mrs. Myra Jean John; duet, Leora Brown and Ruel Ipsen accompanied by Blanch Camp; solo, Elen Williams, Ruth Surrage, accompanist. The benediction was given by David Hughes and J. Guy Benson dedicated the grave. Ruth Surrage played the prelude and postlude.
Mrs. Hughes was born July 27, 1877 at Logan, a daughter of Ann John and Edward W. Smith. She attended school at Logan and later was a clerk in a book store there. On Feb. 27, 1907 she was married to Levi Hughes in the Logan Temple. Four children, two of whom survive, were born to the couple.
Surviving her are her husband, two sons, Stephen James and David Earl Hughes, Marjorie Smith, a niece whom Mr. and Mrs. Hughes have reared since infancy, and one sister, Eunice Gordon of San Francisco, California.
Mrs. Hughes was an ardent worker in church and civic affairs, having served as Y.W.M.A. president, class leader in Relief Society, teacher in Primary, Sunday school and religion class.
