ELWOOD DAHLKE

PRESTON – Elwood John Dahlke, 72, of Virginia, died Friday (1988) in Preston.

He was born May 27, 1916, in Virginia (Idaho) to John Lewis and Carolyn North Dahlke. He grew up and attended school in Virginia and was a graduate of Downey High School.

As a young man, he farmed with his brother in Virginia.

He married Mary Luella Bennett Dec. 23, 1938, in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple.

He farmed and operated a dairy in Virginia and worked for 10 years for PFE and for the Marsh Valley Portneuf Canal Co. He lived in Virginia and Arimo.

He was a member of the LDS Church and was a high priest. He served in the Arimo bishopric and was active in it as teacher and served in other church positions.

He enjoyed athletic events.

He is survived by his wife of Virginia; four sons, Gary E. Dahlke, Thompson Falls, Mont., Kirk L. Dahlke, American Falls, Lonny J. Dahlke, Downey, and Dennis C. Dahlke, Virginia; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Sherlene) Stanger, Helena, Mont., and Mrs. Larry (Vicki) Jones, Pocatello; 25 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wilmer (Bill) Dahlke, Inkom, and Delvin Dahlke, California; and three sisters, Mrs. James (Lorraine) Adkins, Virginia, Mrs. George (Caroline) Keller, and Mrs. Elwin (Nelda) Smith, both of Pocatello. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Funeral services will be noon Tuesday in the Arimo LDS Stake Chapel with Bishop Otto Degn of the Virginia ward officiating. Friends may call at the Marsh Valley Funeral Home in Arimo today from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday at the church from 10:30 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in the Cambridge Cemetery.
