McCAMMON[sic]- Elmer Alvin Quam, 66, McCammon, died Monday [April 6, 1987] in the Veterans Nursing Home in Boise following an extended illness.

He was born February 22, 1921 in Lake Park, Minnesota, to Emil and Annie Hansena[sic] Haugen Quam. He grew up, attended school and spent his early years in Lake Park. As a young man, he also worked in Michigan.

In 1944, he joined the U.S. Army where he was a member of the 345th Signal Corp. and took part in the invasion of Italy. He later served in the liberation of Korea from 1946 to 1947.

He received a special commendation medal for making cherry pies “like mom used to make.”

He married Jennie Farnsworth December 20, 1949 in Missoula, Montana. There[sic] marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in April 1975.

Following his discharge from the service in 1952, he attended diesel mechanic school in Tacoma, Washington. He worked as a heavy equipment Mechanic and owned his own business in Tacoma and later in Salmon.

He moved to McCammon in 1962 and worked for the Simplot mine at Conda[sic] until ill health caused his retirement.

He was a member of the LDS Church and enjoyed working on cars and taking care of his home and animals.

He is survived by his wife of McCammon; one son, Robert Quam, McCammon; one daughter, Mrs. Brad (Kathy) Williams, Holbrook, two grandchildren; and three sisters; Mrs. Donald (Ardis[sic]) Vos[sic], Moorehead[sic], Minn., and Mrs. Vance (Muriel) Fairbairn and Mrs. Wayne (Evelyn) Moose, both of Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Funeral services were held Friday at 1 p.m. in the Marsh Valley Funeral Home in Arimo with Bishop Martell Gunter officiating. Concluding rites were held at the Norton Cemetery under the direction of the VFW Post No. 7075. The family suggests donations to the Multiple Sclorosis[sic] Society.
