Elizabeth Young McKay Gleed

GLEED, ELIZABETH YOUNG McKAY, July 20, 1867 – February 21, 1959

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Third Ward LDS Chapel for Mrs. Elizabeth Young McKay Gleed, 91, who died Saturday at her home following a lingering illness.

Bishop Hubert Gleed officiated at the services. G.R. Moss offered the prayer at the home. At the chapel, prayers were offered by Pres. S.L. Smith and J. Guy Gleed, Jr. Mrs. Laura C. Jones read a tribute to an American War Mother and Mrs. Bessie Jones read the obituary. Musical numbers were violin solo, Mrs. Fern Willie; duets, Norma Gleed, June Crowther; Mollie Hyer and Eldon Corbridge. Accompanists were Myra Jean John, Lorna Willie and Betty Jane Crowther, who also played the prelude and postlude. Speakers were W.W. Thomas and S.A. Hendricks. Raiford G. Benson dedicated the grave.

Flowers were carried by grand-daughters and members of the Third Ward Relief Society. Casket bearers were grandsons, Fred Gleed, Ralph Gleed, Ray Moss, Neal Sheriff, Ralph Palmer and Darhl Gleed. Burial was at the Malad City Cemetery, directed by the Benson Funeral Home.

A daughter of Joseph B. and Jane Smith McKay, Mrs. Gleed was born at Salt Lake City, UT on July 20, 1867. She was married to William Gleed at Malad on January 7, 1885. Mr. Gleed died in March of 1917. A member of the LDS Church, she was active in the Relief Society where she served as a visiting teacher for 67 years. She was a member of the American War Mothers and the Daughters of the Idaho Pioneers, Chapter 4.

The mother of ten children, Mrs. Gleed is survived by eight sons and daughters: Mrs. E.C. (Lizzie) Sheriff, Bountiful; Wilford, Joseph, J. Guy and Ern Gleed, all of Malad; Mrs. G.R. (May) Moss, Ogden; Mrs. Cecil (Mattie) Geraghty, Ely, NV; Mrs. Robert (Pearl) Sorenson, Montebello, CA; also 24 grandchildren; 55 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
