Edwin R. Jones In Business Here Past 64 Years

Edwin R. Jones, who celebrated his 81st birthday May 13th, is Malad’s senior businessman, having been operating his barber shop in the same location for the past 64 years.
Hair cuts were 25¢ and shaves 15¢when Mr. Jones started his career under Parley M. Richards. There were no schools of barbering in those days. Young men served an apprenticeship under an experienced barber. Licenses were not required until 1927.
Mr. Jones, who was born on what is now North Main street in 1877, is the son of Fredrick E. and Sarah Ann Richards Jones. He received his schooling in the Malad schools and attended Brigham Young College at Logan. He married Margaret Jones on June 24, 1903, and they are the parents of four children: Ronald, Clearfield; Arlene Bodily, Idaho Falls; Virgil, Ogallala, Nebraska; Lillian Neilsen, Logan, They have four grandchildren and a great grandchild.
Mr. Jones has been an active member of the LDS Church all his life. He served a mission in Illinois, Michigan, North Dakota and New Mexico in 1900-02; was clerk of the Malad Second Ward for 20 years and served under five bishops.
Most of Mr. and Mrs. Jones’ spare time is spent working in their yard and garden.
