Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Douglas Lawrence Malone, 82, returned home to his Heavenly Father, Monday, January 1, 2001. Douglas was born on August 19, 1918, in Montpelier, Idaho, the son of Lawrence A. and Vernell Bridges Malone.
After working throughout his youth on the family ranch, he married Ruth Donna Johnson on August 4, 1937. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple on April 30, 1964. They were blessed with six children. After the passing of his dear eternal companion in 1982, Douglas met and married Caryol Browning Davis on July 28, 1984, where she blessed his life for 16 wonderful years.
Douglas worked many jobs, the most notable being five years in Alaska where he welded and mined gold on the side. Anyone that has heard his stories of bears and the backcountry knows that he lived his life with a thirst for adventure and fun. He retired in 1984 from Associated Piping and Engineering after 16 years of being a welder and foreman. He was also a proud member of Local 348 of the plumbers and steamfitters. He always enjoyed trap shooting, horses, motorcycles, and being in the mountains.
Douglas was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served in many callings including, a stake mission, bishopric 2nd counselor, and High Priest group leadership. In 1986, he and Caryol served a faithful genealogy mission in Salt Lake City. They also enjoyed regular visits to the temple. In 1994, they moved to Malad Idaho where they made many friends.
He will always be remembered for the testimony he carried and his personal relationship he had with his Savior. Dad, we will always have fond memories of how you loved to tease, and of your wonderful sense of humor. The countless hunting trips and the way you loved and accepted everyone, no matter what their station in life was.
He is survived and will deeply be missed by his wife Caryol, and five sons and one daughter, Lonnie J. Malone, Ogden; Michael D. (Rhea) Malone, West Haven, Utah; Craig A. (Karen) Malone, Roy, Utah; Vicki (Ben) Weatherford, Hampton, Virginia; Kurt D. (Cindy) Malone, Southlake, Texas; and Matt D. (Kathy) Malone, Hooper, Utah; 21 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Barbara (Ron) Hall, Green River, Wyoming; Annette (Von) Elcock, Jerome, Idaho;
Helen Jean Davis, West Jordon, Utah; J.C. (Cindy) Davis, Columbus, Ohio; 13 step-grandchildren and 13 great step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 5, 2001, at the Roy Monte Vista Ward Chapel at 1:00 p.m., 3845 South 2000 West Roy, Utah. Friends may call on Thursday, January 4, 2001, at Lindquist Mortuary from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 3408 Washington Blvd., in Ogden, Utah, and on Friday at the church from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Interment will be at the Washington Heights Memorial Park.
