Donna Talbot, 49, a long-time resident of Oneida County was killed Thursday afternoon, November 20, during an accident on Interstate 15.
A 1994 Chevrolet S-10 pickup driven by Russell Hawk, 66, Hanna, Wyoming was traveling south bound in the northbound lanes on I-15 near the Utah-Idaho Border about 1:00 p.m. when it collided head-on with a 1993 Sable driven by Mrs. Talbot who was traveling northbound in the northbound lanes.
Talbot was ejected from the car and was killed instantly. She was not wearing a seat belt. Hawk was taken by life flight to LDS Hospital in Salt Lake where he is listed in critical condition as of Monday morning, November 24.
Trooper Brian Nelson from the Utah Highway Patrol said there were no drugs or alcohol involved in the accident. He said the UHP does not know why Hawk was traveling on the wrong side of the highway.
Although the accident occurred just inside the Utah border, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene, as well as the Oneida Ambulance.

Tribute to a colleague – Donna Talbot
(Editor’s Note: The following tribute to Donna Talbot was written by former bus supervisor, Frank Madsen, upon the occasion of her being nominated for 1997 School bus Driver of the Year. Mrs. Talbot died in a traffic accident on November 200.
I would like to tell you about a very unique driver that has been driving for Oneida School District #351 for 16 years. Her name is Donna Talbot, and she has a style all of her own.
“Donna believe that every student that rides her bus should feel important. Every holiday she decorates her bus for the occasion, starting with Halloween spiders, Thanksgiving turkeys, Christmas trees, Valentine hearts, St. Patrick’s Day four leaf clovers, and flowers for May showers.
“Donna also remembers each student’s birthday with a special treat.
“Donna keeps a small board at the front of her busy with a thought or a question on it to stump the students, or just to keep them laughing.
“Donna sweeps and dusts her bus on a daily routine, and if another bus driver would have to drive for her it had better come back looking the same way. Donna is also a favorite trip driver for the district. When she transports athletic teams to various competitions she is always an enthusiastic fan in the bleachers.
“A year ago as I was doing bus duty one morning, I observed Donna as she took a little girl from her bus that is severely handicapped. Donna made sure that she was sitting properly in her “wheelchair, tied her shoe lace, and straightened a small bow in the little girl’s hair. Patting the little girl’s brother on his back, Donna sent them off to school knowing that she would be back in a few hours to get them safely home.
“Donna’s route sometimes can difficult because of windy roads covered with snow in the winter, but she never complains. Some mornings she pushes the snow before the snow plows do. Donna is definitely a good friend and co-worker, and she always goes the extra mile to make people feel at ease. Frank Madsen
