
Doneal Thomson

Doneal Thomson, 88, of Meridian, Idaho, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025. Doneal was born January 18, 1937, in Malad, Idaho to Robert Thomson and Ethal Daniels Thomson and had an older sister, Sharlene Williams, and a younger brother, Dennis Thomson. He graduated from Malad High School in 1955 where is excelled in football, basketball, baseball, and track and was on the 1954 Championship team for both football and basketball.
Don continued playing football at Utah State University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1959. After college, Don ventured into the business world, building a successful career fueled by his relentless work ethic and keen business acumen. He once said, “My secret to success is very simple. Work! A Proper attitude is very important too. You have to want to do something and then go ahead and do it.” This philosophy guided him through his entrepreneurial journey to become the President of Thomson Trucking, Inc. and owner/operator of many other businesses across the state of Nevada.
Don married Marilyn Frances Bowen in 1967 and moved his family to Caldwell, Idaho in 1973, where he established Pegasus Ranch. Here, his love for breeding and racing horses thrived. Hedeeply loved horse racing and chariot racing, and many fondly remember his favorite horses, including Sleek Magician, Song Festival, and Rasha. His dedication to his craft extended beyond just racing—he was meticulous about every detail and would often have a hose in hand for hours watering down the stable area to keep the dust at bay.
In addition to his work and passion for horses, Don had a talent for fixing and building anything. His collection of nuts, bolts, screws, and pieces of wood was legendary—a testament to his belief that you never know when you might need something. He was a true creator and a man who found joy in the process of making things better. He was known for his generosity and willingness to help anyone if they were willing to work hard.
Don is survived by his loving family, including his children, grandchildren, and many friends who were fortunate enough to witness his dedication, kindness, and determination. His memory will live on in all those who were lucky enough to know him.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Horsely Funeral Home, 132 West 300 North, Malad, Idaho. A Viewing will be held at 10:00 am with Funeral Services to follow at 11:00 am. Graveside Services at Malad City Cemetery.
