Darl S Gleed

Malad Idaho – Beloved husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather Darl S Gleed was reunited with the love of his life Jenna Lee Hassell (Gleed) on Sunday, January 24, 2016. Darl was born on March 26, 1935 in Malad, Idaho son of Julius Guy Gleed Sr. and Nellie Fredora Sasser. From his earliest years, he worked on his family’s cattle ranch. He attended Malad High School, where he played football, basketball, and boxing. He was Senior Class President. He was a life-long Malad Dragon fan. He went on to attend Snow Jr. College where he played football on scholarship and met his future wife Jenna Lee Hassell. Darl and Jenna Lee were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 6th 1954. They moved on to Idaho State College, where he also played football on scholarship. After college Darl began his lifelong career as a professional scouter with the Boy Scouts of America. His married life included time in Pocatello, Idaho; Bluewater, New Mexico; Yreka, California; Medford, Oregon.; Seattle, Washington; Fairbanks, Alaska; Twin Falls, Idaho; Ogden, Utah; Kailua, Hawaii; Mesa, Arizona; and for the past fifteen years Malad, Idaho, where Darl lived following retirement. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in many capacities including the Stake Presidency and Bishop. His faith in the restored Gospel was an inspiration to all especially his family. Darl was active in every community he lived in. In Malad, he worked with the Welsh Festival, The Deputies, and the Hall of Fame. He also served as Executive Vice President of the Idaho Cattle Association. But his favorite activity was spending time being surrounded by his family and friends. His wife and his family were Darl’s most cherished passions, and he could always be found attending his grandkids sporting events, recitals, blessings and other events. Darl was a perfect of example of Christ-like service. From the Boy Scouts, to his family, to his Church, he dedicated his life to the service others. He was a source of happiness and optimism and took a genuine interest in the lives of everyone he came in contact with. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Jenna Lee; his parents; his brother Julius Guy Gleed Jr. (Neola); his sister Joan Gleed Broman (Terry); a granddaughter, Megan Molyneaux; and a great-granddaughter, Lile Maumau. He is survived by his six children, Julie (Vili) Lolohea of Orem, Utah; Pamela (Dennis) Molyneaux of Layton, Utah; Darl Curtis (Michelle) Gleed of Kona, Hawaii; Kendall (Kelly) Gleed of Federal Way, Washington; Christopher (Michelle) Gleed of Orem, Utah; and Jason Gleed of Malad, Idaho; his sister Joyce Knight (Bruce); brother Blair Gleed (Diane); and sister Diane Treasure (Barry); 27 grandchildren, and 40 great-grandchildren. Darl was loved by everyone who ever met him. He was the perfect father and husband. Words cannot express how deeply he will be missed. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 30 at 11 a.m. at the Malad LDS 2nd Ward Chapel, 20 S. 100 W. Friends may visit with the family at the church Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
