Cynthia Lynn Smith Ure passed away December 31, 2022, in Malad, Idaho. She was born on May 14, 1949, in Pocatello, Idaho to Afton and Luella Parker Smith. She was the 5th youngest and number 3 of the 3 girls, of 7 children. She went to Secretary school at ISU and learned to write shorthand.
She married Harold David Ure on September 7, 1973, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 49 years. Her son James Darin Ure and son Gregory Scott Ure (stillborn) proceeded her in death, as well as her parents.
Cynthia was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved gardening and playing the piano. She also loved the company of her various dogs and Cats throughout the years.
Cynthia had 5 children plus a stillborn. She moved around with her husband a lot due to employment issues to 4 different states, in their years of raising children, she experienced her best health during the 10 years that she bore her Children. Her favorite place she lived in was Beaverton, Oregon. Harold and Cynthia Loved the Gospel of Jeus Christ it has always been the center in their lives and its Cherished its Truths and Values. They worked in the Jordan River Temple for the more part of 15 years and 2 ½ years in the Salt Lake Temple right after they were first Married, and there eldest child Julie Celeste was born on their Temple day.
Cynthia started back when she was 16 having health issues but it did not stop her from graduating from Marsh Valley HS and Attending 1 yr of ISU Voc Tech Secretarial School. She got a job working as Secretary for 2 Bank Vice Presidents at Continental Bank in Salt Lake City, it was there that her health would experience a Major set back in her life and by the time it was all over she at 19 spent over 2 months in the Univerity Hospital in SLC she learned that she had Myathenia-Gravis, She was the hospitals 5th case and Worse case with Myathenia that they had had, all this happened in 1969, even though Myathenia had been discovered in the mid 1800’s doctors really didn’t know much about it or how to diagnose or treat it. Her story was written up in the New England Journal of Medicine. Cynthia was a woman of Great unwavering uncompromising Faith. During her time in the Hospital a Nurse by the name of Helen Walquist introduced Cynthia to her husband Clyde Walquist who was LDS also and who had the gift of healing, he gave Cynthia a Priesthood Blessing, and she was imediatley healed, she threw all her medication away which shocked he Mother, from that point on she never really looked back. She was a woman Great Faith. Oh she experienced weaknesses still but the Disease was gone. She learned early one that Chemical Medication that you get from a pharmacist would do her much harm even cause death. It became very apparent that the Prieshood of God was her medication and she relied on it. It was in those early days 4 yrs after getting sick and healed that in 1973 she met and married Harold David Ure in the Salt Lake Temple, as mentioned above. In the end it was medications she had received doe to injuries that led to her having a Stroke, and 2 ½ years later going home to the Spirit World.
She is survived by her husband Harold David Ure, 4 of her children Julie (Matthew) Peterson, Robyn Richins, Trisha (Leonardo) Li Mura, Crystal (David) Clark, 15 grandchildren, her siblings LeGrande (Eleanor) Smith, Carwin Smith, Kathleen Johnson, Raquel (Dwight) Olson, Cornell Smith and Dell (Carla) Smith.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday January 14, 2023, at 11:00-12:00 with a viewing prior from 9:30-10:30 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints church building, 310 E Center St. Downey, Idaho 83234. Interment will follow at the Robin Cemetery in Robin, Idaho.
