Clarence Ralph Hughes

Samaria, Idaho…Clarence Ralph Hughes, 76, long time Samaria Idaho resident passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, following a long illness. Clarence was born on November 22, 1938 in Malad, Idaho, the son of Ralph Hughes and Alice Stocks. Clarence was married to LaRae Violet Mickelsen, on July 3, 1958. Clarence was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was well know in the community as the proprietor for the Blue Goose, but often spoke fondly of his beginnings with his store, trading with Native Americans, Woolworths Department Store, and working in the LDS Office Building-Historical Research. Clarence has been sought out by many seeking assistance for genealogical research, as well as an authority on many other subjects. Clarence was known for his kindness and interest in children, his fellow man, and his community. He was truly a friend to all men and an icon in the Samaria community. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents. Clarence is survived by his siblings Ileen Janette Durbin, Alice Marie Higley, Betty Kay Higley, Lois JaNeal Buchanan; children LaNie Loreen Grundvig, Clare DeAnne Tiede, Charles Randal Hughes, and foster children Clayton Earl Anderson, and Anthony Norman. Funeral services will be held on Saturday March 7, 2015 at 12:00 noon in the Malad 2nd Ward Building, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Friends may visit with the family on the same day, from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. at the church. Internment will follow at the Samaria Cemetery
