Holbrook Ward membership is decreased with the death of Clara Nalder, whose body was discovered Saturday afternoon by her son Vernal and Evelyn Nalder and Gaylene Willie after an attempt by Leslie Willie to deliver her mail had received no response. She died of natural causes according to Sheriff Kenneth Wharton and Raiford Benson, Oneida County coroner, who were called.
Clara had been active in the Holbrook Ward for many years, having served as a former Holbrook Ward Primary president, Curlew Stake Primary secretary, secretary of the Relief Society and visiting teacher. She was included as a visiting message teacher in Relief Society to the day of her death at the age of 81. Clara had a fine sense of humor, took care of herself, a flock of chickens, her yard and flowers and lived alone following the death of her husband Archie Nalder, many years ago. She was also a creator of handiwork. She was last seen by her neighbors raking her yard Thursday. May Carter visited her Thursday afternoon and recalled that Clara had desired to live and die in her home rather than being taken to a rest home. Her wish was granted. We will miss her cheerfulness and inspiring ways. We extend our sympathy to her family.
She leaves two sons, Vernal and Merle Nalder, Terry Montana, and daughters, Ardena N. Sasser, Pingree, and Beth N. Peck, Garland. She had 13 living grandchildren, one deceased, and 14 great-grandchildren. Six grandsons have served as LDS missionaries, the latest being Dallan Nalder who is serving in the California mission.
