Claire J. Davis dies at Ogden
Roy; Ut. – Claire J. Davis, 61, died Tuesday, December 29,1981 at an Ogden hospital. He was born December 28, 1920 at Malad to Griff J. and Vernal Caldwell Davis. He married Caryol Browning July 8, 1941 in Maywood, California. Their marriage was later solminized (sp. solemnized) in the Salt Lake Temple. For 18 years he owned and operated his own grocery business in Downey and McCammon.
He was employed at the IGA Market in Malad and retired from the K-Mart Store in Ogden. He was a member of the LDS Roy Sixth Ward.
He has served as president of the Sunday School in Malad and Roy. He has been Elders Quorum President and served a Malad Stake Mission. He was currently a temple worker and Assistant Ward Clerk. He had served as president of the Downey, Malad and Roy Lion Clubs. He had recently received his 30 year Lions Pin. He was a member of the McCammon Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Malad American Legion.
He had been Oneida County Red Cross Chairman and had served on the Oneida School Board. He had been a Downey City Councilman and a active Little League Coach.
Survivors are his wife of Roy, and sons and daughters, J. Claire Davis, Layton; Mrs. Ronald (Barbara) Hall, Lyman, Wy.; Mrs. Von (Annette) Elcock, San Ramon, Calif.; and Mrs. Helen Jean Williams of Pocatello. He had twelve grandĀ¬children. Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Vaun C. Davis, Riverdale, Utah; Boyd C. Davis, Brigham; John R. Davis and Terry K. Davis, Idaho Falls; Mrs. Odell (Erma Jean) Price, Malad; Mrs. Dan (Emily) Sheridan and Mrs. Darwin (Pearl) Talbert, Salt Lake; Mrs Darwin (Rosalie) Browning, Bellvue, Wash.; and Mrs. Jim (Deanna) Johnston, Rosville, (sp. Roseville) Calif.
Funeral services will be held Thurdsay, (sp. Thursday) December 31, at the Malad Fourth Ward Chapel with Bishop Clarence Kent officaiting (sp. officiating). Burial will be in the Downey City Cemetary (sp. Cemetery). Funeral services under the direction of Mayers Mortuary, Roy, Utah.
