Charlie Howard McElyea

McELYEA, CHARLIE HOWARD, May 5, 1918 – March 31, 2006

LAYTON – Charlie Howard McElyea, 87, passed away March 31, 2006 at Chancellor Gardens in Clearfield, Utah of natural causes.

He was born May 5, 1918 in Maymead, Tennessee to Conley and Emma Rash McElyea. He married Shelia Richards on August 21, 1940. She passed away August 16, 1976. He married Doris Mellor on October 9, 1977 in Clearfield, Utah.

Charlie served in the Army during WWII where he received a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star medals for his service. He was a member of the American Legion and was a member of the Baptist Church. He also managed the Davis Drive-in Theater for over 30 years.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; children: Bart D. (Crystal) McElyea, Charlene Gurganious, both of St. George; jack (Barbara) Edsinger, West Haven; Ron (Lavon) Edsinger, Ogden; nine grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous step-grand and great-grandchildren; one brother, Barton McElyea, Grants Pass, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Shelia; and four sisters.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 5 at 11:00 a.m. in the Myers Mortuary Chapel, Layton. Interment, Malad City Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded.
