Charley Eugene Murphy, 74, of Malad, died February 3, 2001, at the Oneida County Hospital in Malad.
He was born September 9, 1927, in Firth, Idaho, a son of William Thomas and Jennetta Goodson Murphy. He was a member of the LDS Church. He suffered from meningitis at the age of eighteen months which resulted in permanent hearing loss.
He received his education at the School for the Deaf and Blind at Gooding, Idaho where he became proficient in sign language. Charley developed a fascination for trains and enjoyed collecting pictures of them.
For many summers he worked for the Johnson Fruit Stand in Firth and also helped on the family farm. When his mother’s health began to fail he moved to Darlington, Idaho and lived at the Lost Rivers Shelter Home. The past few years he has been a resident of the Malad Living Center in Malad, Idaho.
He is survived by his sister, Betty (Ralph) Svancara and Sister-in-Law, Joey Murphy both of Blackfoot, ID and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, James, Howard, Jacob, Wesley and Billie Murphy; three sisters, Helen Butler, Dorothy Scovil and Doris Murphy. He will be missed by his many friends and family.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 7, 2001, at 1:30 p.m. at the Hawker, Hill, Sandberg Funeral Chapel. The family will meet with friends for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Firth City Cemetery.
