MALAD – Charles Welton Ward, age 71. Lifelong resident of Woodruff, south of Malad, Idaho, died Sunday, October 7, 1990, at his home of natural causes.
He was born April 11, 1919, in Woodruff, Idaho, a son of Owen David and Ellen (Nellie) Parry Ward. He was educated in Malad public schools, and attended Utah State Agricultural College for two years at Logan.
He married Faye Madsen, March 28, 1941 in Cherry Creek, Idaho. The marriage was solemnized November 23, 1959, in the Logan L.D.S. Temple.
He was a full-time farmer and welder, and worked for several corporations throughout his lifetime, including Union Pacific Railroad, U & I Sugar Factory, Washo Road Test, Williams Irrigation, and 13 years with Thiokol.
He was an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and “at the time of his death served as a home teacher. He had also served as Scoutmaster and Sunday School teacher.
He was a charter member of the Oneida County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Unit, and was an active member at the time of his death; member of the Samaria Lake Irrigation Company and served as president of the organization.
A veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Ernest W. Jones Post of the American Legion. He was also a life member of the National Rifle Association.
He especially enjoyed hunting with his sons.
He is survived by his wife, of Woodruff; two sons, Charles Owen Ward, Woodruff; Dale Frank Ward, Brigham City, Utah; two daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Joan) Williams, Malad; Helen Ward, Tremonton, Utah; one brother, Delton Ward, Woodruff; one sister, Ladore Goodsell, Springville, Utah; 16 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marjorie Ward Nielsen; two brothers, Clifford Allen Ward, and George Parry Ward; one sister, Sarah Majorie Ward.
