Charles Roger Luthi, (1952)

Charles Roger Luthi
June 1, 1952 – September 9, 2023

Charles Roger Luthi was born on June 1, 1952, in Soda Springs, Idaho. The 6th son and 9th of eventually 12 children to Frank and Idella Luthi. When he was 6 years old, the family moved to South Salt Lake, Utah where he attended Blaine Elementary, Central Jr High, and graduated in the class of 1970 from Granite High.

In 1974 he married Judy Young, and they were blessed with 2 children, Claire, and Scott. After they divorced, he met and married Tammy Scott. This union was blessed with 2 additional children, Leslee, and Nick.

Roger worked at many different jobs in his life. He loved taking pictures of nature, finishing pictures at horse racetracks from California to Northern Idaho, and portraits for families and individuals. He also followed in his family’s footsteps of driving trucks in Wyoming and Texas for Haliburton.

He loved to smoke or grilling meat, bake, and make salsa which he promptly shared with neighbors and friends. He also loved spending time in the mountains riding horses, hunting and fishing.

Roger was diagnosed with a heart condition in 2020 while living in Brownfield, TX. With the encouragement of his daughter Leslee, he moved to Malad, ID to be near the incredible treatment facilities at the University of Utah Hospital. Cancer is a horrible disease that touches so many lives. Almost one year ago he was diagnosed with Tonsil Cancer and started his battle. After completing his last round of treatments in June of 2023, he returned home to recuperate. Sadly, his body was not able to completely recover, and he passed away Labor Day weekend 2023 at home of natural causes.

He is survived by his daughters Claire and Leslee (Rony) Rojas, son Scott, and grandchildren Mia and Nathan Rojas. Along with his sisters Clara Norris, Mary Jane (Dave) Casper, and Dorothy (Keith) Breinholt and brothers, Frank, Mark (Tamara) & Steve (Linda) Luthi.

He is preceded in death by his son Nick, both his parents, brothers Rene, Allen, Ellis, and Fred, and sister Evelyn Luthi.

Rest in Peace, Roger, may God be with you until we meet again.

At his request, there will be no formal service. He asked to be cremated and have his ashes spread in the mountains that he loved.

The family would also like to send a special thanks to the staff at the University of Utah and Huntsman Cancer Institute for the incredible, compassionate care they provided him each and every day of his treatment.
