Funeral Services For Charles Powell

Funeral services for Charles Powell, 76, are being held this afternoon at the Malad stake tabernacle under the direction of the Malad Second ward bishopric.

Mr. Powell was found dead in his bed Tuesday morning [March 14, 1940], death resulting from a heart attack.

Charles Powell was born Jan. 3, 1864, in Wales. He was married to Elizabeth Watkins in 1885 and they came to America in 1886. The Powells made their home in Pennsylvania and Ohio for a number of years where Mr. Powell was employed in the steel mills.

In 1906 they moved to the Malad valley where they engaged in farming in Cherry Creek. For the past few years they lived in Malad, where Mrs. Powell died in Feb. 1939.

Surviving are his two children, Thomas Powell of Ruth, Nev., and Mrs. Jno. Clark of Malad City; and five grandchildren: Charles, Elizabeth and Kathryn Powell of Ruth, Nev., Elizabeth Hunter of Los Angeles, Calif., and Emma Jean Clark of Malad.

Funeral services for Charles Powell were held on Thursday afternoon at the stake tabernacle under the direction of the Malad Second ward bishopric. Bishop Guy Servoss presided at the following program: Vocal solo, Stillman Harris; Invocation, Wm.[sic] Kingston; biograph** of Powell family, Bishop Leo Williams of Cherry Creek; vocal solo, H. M. Williams, accompanied by Mrs. S. A. Hendricks; speaker, J. Edward Gibbs; vocal duet, Mrs. Larue Da*iels and Mrs. Edna Thomas; speaker, S. A. Hendricks; song, St. John quartet; accompanied by Professor Powell; benediction, Verl Moon.

Interment was in the Malad cemetery with Guy Benson dedicating the grave. Out of town people who came for the services were: Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Powell, Charles, Isabel and Katherine Powell, and Mrs. Margarite Evans of Ruth, Nevada; Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Settlemyer and Mr. and Mrs. Evan Morse of Ogden and Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Hess of Fielding.
