Carrie Jensen Gillies

Carrie Jensen Gillies, 87, of Malad, former resident of Monroe, Utah, passed away March 31, 1993, in Malad.

She was born October 19, 1905, at Richfield, Utah, the daughter of Lucy Elmeda Harmon and James Jensen.

She was raised and educated in Richfield, Utah. She married Jay Marion Gillies in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved to Vineyard, Utah, and later to Monroe, Utah. She was a very loving mother, wife and grandmother. Her home was always a place where people loved to come, and always lots of good food was enjoyed. She loved to cook, sew and take care of her garden and flowers. She belonged to the Literose Club and in 1967 she was named the “Mother of the Year” for Sevier County. She was active in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and also War Mothers and served as Chairman for the Cancer Society for many years. She was an active member of the LDS Church and held many positions which included Primary President, Stake Missionary, and Relief Society President. She is survived by three sons and spouses: Phil Marlo and Ina Gillies, Earl Arland and Anna Gillies, of Malad, Burke Oris and LuJuanna Gillies Monroe, Utah; one daughter, Gayle Gillies Johnson, Henderson, Nevada; one brother, Harmon Jensen of Richfield, Utah. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, one son Marion Gillies, one brother Milo Jensen, and three sisters; Ruth Jensen Jones, Lucille Jensen Webb and Rose Jensen.

Funeral services were held at the Monroe Stake Center Saturday, April 3, 1993. Burial was in Monroe.
