Carmen Ione Shaffer Gleed

GLEED, CARMEN IONE SHAFFER

Bloomington – Carmen Ione Shaffer Gleed, 71, died June 16, 1986 at the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital in Montpelier following a short illness.

She was born December 22, 1914 in East Garland, UT, to Richard Larkin and Dora Woods Shaffer.

She married Merlin L. Gleed February 14, 1938 in Brigham City, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. They moved to the Bear Lake Valley in the fall of 1956.

She was active in the LDS Church and served as Young Women’s president, Relief Society president and many other stake and ward positions.

The last few years, she devoted many hours to extraction genealogy work for Latin Parish Registers for the Irish people.

She is survived by her husband, Bloomington; three daughters, Mrs. Arthello (Bonnie) Cheney, Stanton, CA; Mrs. Robert (Myrrle) Doxey, Roy, UT; Mrs. Ronald (Rita) Schaefer, Bennion, UT; one son, Roy M. Gleed, Lanark; three sisters, Effie Wilde, Salt Lake City; Iva Godfry, Riverside, UT; JoAnn Gunnell, Brigham City, UT; four brothers, Vernon Shaffer, Malad; Kenneth Shaffer and Jasper Shaffer, both of East Garland, UT; Don Shaffer, Logan, UT; 25 grandchildren; five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Paris Stake Center. Burial will be in the Bloomington Cemetery.
