Boyd Clair Hess, a cherished husband, father, grandpa, grandpa-great, and friend, passed away on August 7, 2023, at the age of 72. Born on June 25, 1951, in Logan, Utah, Boyd’s journey through life was one of compassion, dedication, and a deep-rooted love for his family and community.

Boyd’s upbringing in the close-knit community of St. John, Idaho, instilled in him the values of hard work and community service. On November 21, 1977, he united in marriage with his beloved wife, Sharon, embarking on a journey of love and partnership that spanned over four decades. Together, they shared a life filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering support for one another. Their journey led them from Ogden, Utah, to their home in Malad, Idaho, where they built a life rich in love and shared experiences.

His strong work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident from an early age, traits that would shape his career that he loved. For many years, Boyd served as the head miller for Idaho Milling and Grain, a role in which he not only demonstrated his expertise but also left a mark on the industry and his colleagues.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Boyd was a devoted member of the Search and Rescue, and a reserve officer for the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, exemplifying his dedication to the safety and well-being of his community.

Boyd’s zest for life extended to his myriad of passions. He found solace in the great outdoors, whether embarking on adventurous hunting trips with friends, enjoying the starlit sky, or simply basking in the beauty of nature. Equally at home in the realm of technology, Boyd’s curiosity led him to embrace the ever-changing landscape of innovation.

A cup of coffee shared with friends held a special place in Boyd’s heart, fostering moments of laughter, camaraderie, and cherished memories. He found relaxation and inspiration in the world of a captivating TV series, savoring the art of storytelling. Boyd’s insatiable curiosity led him to a lifelong love of learning and an appreciation for history. His love for BBQ was matched only by his culinary skills, which he delighted in sharing through good meals and great conversations with the ones he loved.

Boyd leaves behind a legacy of integrity, kindness, and love for those around him. As we mourn his passing, let us also celebrate the remarkable journey he embarked upon and the countless lives he touched along the way.

Boyd’s greatest treasure was his family, and his legacy lives on through his loved ones. He was a loving husband, a guiding father, and a dependable friend. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sharon Hess, who stood by his side through every moment of their remarkable journey, as well as his loving siblings: Bob, Don, Julene, and Sallie. Boyd’s memory will forever be carried in the hearts of his children and their spouses: Patricia and Stan, Bryon and Margie, Sunshine, Melanie and Mike, and Logan and Amber. His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren: Aashlie, Andrew, Brandon, Chloe, Clark, Jeremy, Jessica, Kacey, Kadden, Kara, Kori, Megan, Rachael, Samuel, Sarah, and Travis, as well as his great-grandchildren: Elaine, Evelyn, Skyla, and Wesley.

Boyd is preceded in death by his parents, Alta John and Herbert Hess, as well as his daughter, Lindsay, his sisters, Ruth and LaVona, and his brothers, Ron and Herb. Though he has left this earthly realm, Boyd’s spirit will forever resonate in the lives he touched, the memories he created, and the love he shared.

A viewing will be held on Monday, August 14th from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Horsley Funeral Homes, 132 W. 300 N. Malad City, Idaho. The funeral service will take place on August 15th at 12:00 PM at Horsley Funeral Homes, with a viewing prior from 11:00-11:45 am, where family and friends will gather to celebrate Boyd’s remarkable life and bid him a heartfelt farewell.
