Betty Jo Hatch Lowry
June 11, 1936 – September 6, 2024
Betty Jo Hatch Lowry, 88 passed away Friday, September 6, 2024. She was born June 11, 1936, in Pocatello, Idaho to Simmons Franklin Hatch and Mable Mulherin Hatch. She was the beloved favorite child of two families, Sim Hatch family and Mable Brady family. Betty Jo grew up in Arimo, Idaho where she attended grade school and high school.
She married her childhood sweetheart Arthur Kenneth Lowry November 1, 1952, they were later sealed in the Logan Temple. It was important to Mom to always be available to attend to her children. Because of this Betty had a variety of jobs throughout her life. Mom was always a hard worker and joined in supporting her family by working. After her youngest was of school age, she became the manager of the old Bluebird Groceteria in Logan, Utah. She worked there for many years, fostering friendships with the customers. Betty retired from Smith’s as the Floral Manager. She developed her artistic talent for arranging flowers. Many of her customers and vendors became friends because of her sweet personality and spunkiness.
Granny, at the drop of a hat, was always willing to go and enjoy family and friends. She never wanted to miss a party. After the passing of her husband, Mom was able to enjoy several trips with family to various parts of the United States. Mom’s favorite places to visit are the islands of Hawaii. One of her last trips was her 80th birthday celebration. Mom with her children and their spouses, a sister-in-law, a niece, and two grandkids celebrated that great day on the island of Vieques, Puerto Rico.
Most of all, Mom was the best Granny/Grandma to her wonderful grandchildren. They all tell a similar story that they are the “Favorite” grandchild of them all. That’s because when they were with her, she made each of them feel that way.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she served in various capacities. Many years as a Primary teacher, Ward Librarian, and a Relief Society Counselor as well as a Ministering Sister. Mom was a missionary by example in the way she lived her life. She was accepting of everyone.
Betty’s family appreciates and gives thanks to the staff and care givers at Autumn Care for the way they treated our dear Mother.
She is survived by her five children Annette Moser (Kelle) Smithfield, Utah; Kenneth Simmons Lowry (Debbie) Nibley, Utah; Teresa Smith (Alan) Brunswick, Georgia; Bruce Lowry (Michelle) Pocatello, Idaho; Gregory Lowry (Mireille) Paradise, Utah; 19 grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren.
