BEN L. JONES

Funeral services for Ben L. Jones, who passed away Wednesday night, November 28, (1945) at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Melvin Thompson, will be held Saturday at 1 o’clock at the Malad second ward tabernacle. Mr. Jones underwent an operation at the Dee hospital in Ogden about two weeks ago and was brought to Malad Monday of this week.

Mr. Jones was born Oct. 22, 1865 in Illinois. When a small child he moved with his parents to Deer Lodge, Montana. His father died when he was small and at the age of 8 years he came to Samaria to make his home with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Roberts, where he lived until he was married, on December 24, 1890 to Caroline Williams, at the Logan Temple. To this union seven children were born, three of whom survive. Mrs. Joseph Leigh, Dan W. Jones, Ogden and Mrs. Melvin Thompson, Malad. He has six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He is an elder in the L. D. S. church and for a number of years was ward clerk in Samaria. He lived in Pleasantview for a number of years where he engaged in farming later he moved to Samaria where he lived until 1930 when he came to Malad.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR BEN L. JONES

Funeral services were held Saturday at 1 o’clock at the Stake tabernacle for Ben L. Jones with Parry Harrison presiding.

Helen Crowther played the prelude and postlude. S. A. Hendricks, Samuel Williams, and William Chandler were the speakers. The musical numbers were offered by Margaret E. Jones, Thos. Jones, Jenkin Palmer, and Phyllis Palmer. Prayer at the home was offered by Alfred Mathews and at the church by Joe Jones and Walter Williams. David Hughes dedicated the grave.

Those from out of town in attendance were: Mr. and Mrs. Joe Leigh, Dan Jones and family, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Leigh, Mr. and Mrs. King, Jack Malouf, Owen Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Mathews, Ogden; Mr. and Mrs. William Chandler and daughter, Pocatello.
