Baylor Allyn Swope, (2004)

Baylor Allyn Swope
May 28, 2004 – December 25, 2023

Baylor Allyn Swope was born on May 28, 2004, in Logan, Utah to Tim and Marla Swope of Malad, Idaho. He passed away peacefully at home early on Christmas morning, December 25, 2023. Baylor was born 5 weeks premature by emergency C-section and spent the first 3 weeks of his life at Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City. He was a smiley, beautiful little boy with sparkling eyes who loved to sing and dance. He especially loved to entertain his family with his dance moves and funny faces. At 2 years old he was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a fatal degenerative neuromuscular disease. Baylor was never able to run, jump, or ride a bike like other children, but it didn’t stop him from enjoying the things he could do. From the age of 8 years old he was wheelchair bound, but still found so much joy in life. He had a love of superheroes (especially Spiderman) from the time he was 2 and became a superhero himself to all who knew him, especially his family.

When he was 4 years old, for his Make-A-Wish, Baylor and his family went on a one week trip to Give Kid’s the World, Disney World, Universal Studios and Sea World. While at Universal Studios he and his family got to meet and take pictures with Spiderman and other superheroes. That was the highlight of the trip for Baylor. As he got older Baylor could tell you anything you wanted to know about DC or Marvel superheroes. He was crazy awesome at superhero trivia! Baylor also loved the Star War’s movies and had an extensive collection of Star War’s characters and a real light saber that he enjoyed showing to visitors. He enjoyed collecting both superhero and Star war’s collectibles and had so many that it kept his parents busy finding shelves to display them on in his bedroom. One of Baylor’s most favorite things to do was to spend time with his family. He loved family time and hanging out with his many nieces and nephews. Baylor enjoyed fulfilling his church duties, especially passing and blessing the sacrament. He attended Malad schools from the age of 3, starting in early intervention preschool with Miss Kathy and Miss Mary. He had 3 wonderful aides during his school career, Miss Lori, Miss Avis and Miss Brook to help him throughout the school day. We’re so grateful that we had these sweet ladies to assist Baylor at school. We are also grateful to Symbii Hospice and his nurse, Kara, for their wonderful support and their dedication to keeping Baylor comfortable. We know he’s running now! 1..2..3..Go!

He is survived by his parents, and siblings, Maleri (Quinn) Thompson, Jared (Allison) Swope, Brice (Katie) Swope, Jenni (Dustin) DeWall, and Mica Swope, and much loved nieces and nephews along with many aunts, uncles and cousins. There will be a viewing at the Malad 2nd Ward Chapel on Dec. 29th at 10:30-11:30 with services at 12 PM.
