BARNEY P. JONES

Oneida County’s oldest citizen, Barnard (Barney) Parry Jones, is dead at 96 after a lifetime spent in developing natural resources.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Reorganized L.D.S. Church and burial will be at the Malad City Cemetery.

Friends may call at the family home, 292 N. 300 W., Malad, Wednesday evening and Thursday prior to the funeral.

Benson Funeral Home is in charge of the services.

Mr. Jones was born Oct. 23, 1866 at Logan, Utah, a son of Morgan T. and Mary Parry Jones. He came to Malad Valley with his parents when he was only a year and a half old and only 5 ½ years after the first settlers arrived here. He married Sarah Cordelia Thomas January 3, 1887 at Malad. Mrs. Jones died 25 years ago.

A rancher and stockman, Mr. Jones was a member of the Reorganized L.D.S. Church.

Exceptionally active for a man of his age until only a short time ago when taken ill, Mr. Jones helped his son with farm work, read newspapers, traveled extensively, watched musical shows and fights on television and maintained an interest in current events.

Surviving are one son and three daughters; Milton T. Jones, Mrs. Sarah Booker, Mrs. John (Mollie) Lewis, Evelyn Jones, all of Malad; 18 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
