Services Tuesday For Arch Harris
Funeral services were conducted at the St. John LDS Ward chapel Tuesday for Archibald Harris, age 80, who died Saturday morning at his home of a heart attack.
Bishop James W. Madsen officiated. Prayers were offered at the home by Adrian Jones; at the chapel by Eugene Edwards and Bishop John E. Blaisdell. Speakers were Bishop Madsen, who read the obituary; Pres. Thos. W. Richards and Bishop Melvin Yearsley. Special musical numbers were a trio, Miriel Dredge, Helen E. Jones, Wanda Edwards; violin solo, Fern Willie; vocal solo, Foster Ipsen. Accompanists were Cherrel Budge, Myra Jean John, Iris Barker. Prelude and postlude were played by Lysle Deschamps.
Flowers were arranged by members of the St. John Relief Society. Rex Harris offered the dedicatory prayer at the St. John Cemetery where interment was directed by Benson Funeral Home. Casket bearers were Clyde Courtney, Perce E. Hall, Theras E. Lewis, Keith Evans, Cordell Williams, Wendell Giles.
Mr. Harris was born Jan. 3, 1885 at Woodruff, a son of Everett and Margaret Ann John Harris. He attended schools at Woodruff and later Cherry Creek where his father took up a farm. He married Mary Mae Jones June 10, 1908, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They lived at Elkhorn until 1916 when they built their present home in St. John. Active in the LDS Church, Mr. Harris served as first counselor to the bishop, bishop of the St. John ward, ward teacher, priesthood quorum teacher, superintendent of the Sunday school, and at the time of this death, was group leader of the High Priests Quorum, St. John, and home teacher.
Mr. Harris was trustee of the St. John school district for many years and served on the St. John Cemetery board.
Survivors include his widow of St. John; six daughters, Mrs. Clyde (Millie) Courtney, Idaho Falls; Mrs. Perce E. (Orpha) Hall, Mountain Home; Mrs. Wendell (Bonnie) Giles, Bountiful, Utah; Mrs. Theras (Catherine) Lewis; Mrs. Keith (Rula) Evans and Mrs. Cordell (Mazie) Williams, all of Malad; 15 grandchildren; and one great grandchild; four brothers and three sisters, Alvin Harris, Stillman Harris, Mrs. Morgan (Rose) Jones and Mrs. Verl (Vera) Jones, all of Malad City; Lorin (Bud) Harris, Provo, Utah; Everett Harris and Mrs. John M. (Stella) Pierce, both of Ogden.
