Ann Shivers Gleed

Ann Shivers Gleed was born in the town of Winterburn, County of Wilshire, England, on March 25, 1832.  She was the daughter of James and Ann Shivers.  She spent her early life in Winterburn until she married Edward Gleed in 1853.

Ann and Edward Gleed settled in Broad Hinton, Wilshire County, England and to them here six children were born.  They were John, Edwin, Henry, George, Sarah Ann and William.

When William was a baby the family moved to Wales where I, Matilda Gleed (Price) was born Aug. 7, 1868.

It was at this time that James Shivers, mother’s brother, in Willow Springs (4 mile) in South Idaho wrote to them about life in Utah and Idaho.  He persuaded them to come to America so when I was just a tiny baby our family of seven children and Father and Mother left Wales by boat and came to America in the early spring of 1869.  We traveled West by train.

We arrived at Willow Springs and Mother made a happy pioneer home for the family while father develop[ed the farm.  After about six or seven years we move to Malad where father homesteaded a farm and once more Mother made a happy home in spite of the large family and shortage of living space.  She worked as a true  help mate to father always.

To them were born in Malad, two more children, Alexander and Mary, making a family of nine children, six boys and three girls.

Mother was baptised Dec. 4, 1884 into the church in Malad, Idaho.

In 1892 Father and Mother moved to town where they enjoyed ten years of retired life before father passed away.  Mother remained in her home until a few months before her death when she came to live with  me, Matilda Price.

She died Aug. 2, 1907 and was laid beside her husband in the Malad Cemetery.
