Aubrey Franklin Turley, 92, died Friday, December 4, 1998, at the Bear River Valley Hospital in Tremonton. He was born in Colonia Juarez, Mexico, May 25, 1906, the son of Edward and Annie Sariah Martineau Turley. His family was driven out of Mexico in 1912 during the Mormon Exodus. His mother and family went to Arizona for a while, then settled in Logan, Utah, where he spent the next several years working odd jobs to supplement his mother’s meager income.
While a teenager he returned to Arizona to farm, then worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad. He and his brother Walter settled into farming at Hawkins Basin, Idaho and later in Blue Creek, Utah. In 1934 they bought land in Pocatello Valley, Idaho. He loved the land and the good life farming allowed.
Aubrey married his sister-in-law, Edna Pickett Turley, in 1936 after Walter’s death. He raised her four boys as well as the two children he and Edna had. The family made their home in Garland as well as Pocatello Valley. Edna’ died on June 9, 1957. He married Irene Norr in 1961. They made their home in Tremonton. She died January 27, 1987.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He spent his life involved in church work and community service. He was involved in the Idaho election process and school board for years.
He is survived by his children: Marjorie (Nick) Cavoulas, Aliquippa, PA; Harlan (Afton) Turley, Bountiful, UT; Reese (Jean) Turley, Redmond, WA; Max (Tanya) Turley, Maple Grove, MN; Judy (Gerry) Cragun, Longmont, CO; step-children: Elaine Hoscock, Vancouver, WA; Maxine (Harry) Furphy, Overgaard, AZ; Gloria Uibel, Brigham City; Laura (Fred) Selman, East Tremonton.
He was preceded in death by three sons, Marvin, Grant, and Alan; stepson Buss Norr.
Funeral Services were held Monday, December 7, 1998, at the Tremonton Stake Center with Bishop Rodney W. Merrell officiating.
Interment in the Logan City Cemetery.
