Ardyth Colton Toland

Ardyth Colton Toland, 97 passed away Sunday April 21, 2019 at the Oneida County Long Term Center. Ardyth was born November 1, 1921 in Malad, Idaho, the third of seven children born to Morgan J. and Sarah Thorpe Colton. She attended schools in Malad and graduated with the class of 1939.

While working as an aide at the Oneida County Hospital she met the love of her life who was a patient at the time. She married Chris Toland on March 21, 1942 in Malad. They raised a son and a daughter and spent most of their life in Malad. Chris passed away three weeks before their 50th wedding anniversary.

Ardyth had various jobs in her life from working at potato harvest time to custodial work. She worked for many years as a clerk at Rex Schwartz’s IGA Food Center in Malad. Rex and Lucille and her coworkers were like a second family to her.

Ardyth took pride in her immaculate home and her family always came first. Grandma Ardy will always be remembered by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren for her delicious home-made rolls and her angel food birthday cakes. She loved reading, gardening, crocheting, doing puzzles and cross stitch. Many members of her family have cherished reminders in their home of her beautiful handiwork. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served as a Primary Teacher. She loved and never missed watching conference.

She is survived by her daughter Christine (Niah) Davis, her grandchildren Teresa (Ron) Tubbs, Tyler (Anna) Davis, five great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, sister Beth Davis, and a brother-in-law Loyd Felix. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Chris Toland, son Timothy James Toland, great-grandson Challis Taylor Tubbs, brother Tom Colton, sisters Grace Hill, Josephine Allen, Amelia Felix, and Merle John.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Teeples and to the loving and compassionate staff at the Oneida County Long Term Care. Friends and family may visit at a viewing Thursday, April 25th, from 10:30 to 11:30 at the Horsley Funeral Home 132 West 300 North. Graveside services will be held at noon at the Malad Cemetery.
