Gerald Brent Thomas

Gerald Brent Thomas, age 66, a native of Malad City, Idaho and long-time resident of Riverton, Utah, died following a battle with cancer. Brent was born on August 3, 1950, in Malad City, Idaho, a son of Gerald and Helen Thomas. He was raised in Malad along with four other brothers, graduating from Malad High School, while contributing to the success of his parent’s company – Thomas Electric and Furniture. He then began his education at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. After returning from his mission to the Ontario-Quebec Mission, and resuming his education, he married Kathleen Weidler in the Salt Lake City Temple in 1972. He received his bachelor of science in accounting in 1974. After BYU, they began their life together in West Valley City, Utah where he worked as an accountant. After five children arrived – three girls and two boys – they moved to Sandy, Utah. Brent was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Serving in numerous capacities, he particularly enjoyed being a neighbor, Home Teacher, Bishop, Executive Secretary, and High Councilor. All of which allowed him to talk to people and make more friends – his talent, and genuine hobby. He constantly told stories, jokes, and made everyone feel like they belonged. Many an evening were spent sitting in lawn chairs in the front yard talking to everyone as they passed by. Anyone who knows Brent thinks that he was their best friend. We will miss him dearly. He is survived by his five children, six grandchildren, and four brothers. Children Angela Thomas, Ryan Brent Thomas, Golden Edward Thomas (wife Crystal), Megan Isham (husband Daniel), and Lauren Thomas. His brothers Randy Thomas, Kelly Thomas, J.D.
