James Eugene Edwards

April 26, 1949 – June 2, 1964

Fifteen year old James Eugene (Jimmy) Edwards was killed about 6 p.m. Tuesday when struck by a bolt of lightning while operating a tractor on the family farm about eight miles northwest of Malad in St. John.

Artificial respiration was applied at the scene of the accident and at the Oneida Hospital but the youth did not respond.

The fatal bolt came during a quick-striking thunder and lightning storm which was accompanied by a high wind and succeeding downpour. The storm swept across Malad Valley within a few minutes.

A son of Mr. and Mrs. David Eugene Edwards, Jimmy was graduated with scholastic honors in May from Malad Junior High School. A promising young athlete, he had competed in freshman and junior varsity basketball and varsity baseball for Malad High School. He had also been named to several All-Star Little and Pony League teams of the past few years.

He was a member of the Malad High School band, had served as 7th grade class president and president of an 8th grade Guidance League.

Born April 26, 1949 at Malad, Jimmy was an active member of the LDS Church.

Surviving are his parents; two brothers and a sister, Tim David, Steven J. and Trudy Edwards, all of St. John; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey L. Jones, Malad.

Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. in the Malad LDS Stake Chapel with Bishop James Madsen officiating. Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery directed by Benson Funeral Home.
