POCATELLO – Theron J. “Tuck” Smith fought a hard fight with cancer, and on July 14, 1998 passed away at home with his loving wife and children at his side.
Tuck was born May 6, 1934 in Bridge-land, Utah. He was the sixth child of Jason Lynn and Ruby Alice Edwards Smith. He moved to Vale, Oregon, with his family when he was 13 years old. He graduated from Vale High School in 1952.
In June 1953 he joined the Army, and was stationed most of the time in Fort Bragg, N.C., with the 82nd Airborne Division and the 11th Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
Following the service he graduated with a teaching degree from the College of Idaho, and taught school for 25 years in Jerome, Bliss and Pocatello, and farmed in Blackrock.
Tuck married Carma Bowers on September 10, 1957 in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple.
They had two sons and two daughters, and 13 grandchildren.
Tuck loved spending time with “his children and grandchildren, hunting and fishing in the mountains of the Middle Fork in Salmon, his horses and string of pack mules, and the roundups on the Johnson Ranch in Vale, Ore.
He was an elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and he also held various positions during the years.
Surviving him are his wife and children, Ty (Cindy) Smith of Malad, Lisa (Keith) Vaughn of Bailey, Colo., Kip (Mitzi) Smith and Deanna (Doug) Cone of Pocatello; 13 grandchildren; and the following brothers and sisters, Phyllis McCullough, Horseshoe Bend, Ariz., Elaine (Mike) Jensen, Delta, Utah, Dan (Lillian) Smith, McCammon, Idaho, Loyia (George) Toly, Oakhurst, Calif, Kay (Glenda) Smith, Vale, Ore., Gay (Jerry) Motley, Midway, Utah, Jay (Marna) Johnson. Gold Beach, Ore., Rosemary (Tom) Bran-iff, Dan (June) Johnson, Janet (Howard) Girvin, Rick (Sheryl) Johnson, Chris (Rhia) Johnson and Geary (Annette) Johnson, all of Vale, Ore., Jerry (Bonnie) Johnson, Kelly (Randa) Johnson of Madris, Ore., and Bob (Theresa), of Ontario, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepfather, Earl Sulser and Lew and Roselind Johnson, and a brother. Merin Smith.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 18, at 11 a.m. with Bishop Trent Stephens of the South Park Ward officiating, located on Fredregill and Fourth Avenue, Pocatello.
A viewing will be held Friday, July 17, at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. Fourth Ave., from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Interment will be at the Inkom Cemetery, with the combined military groups presenting colors: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 735, Disabled American Veteran’s Chapter 3, Fleet Reserve Association No. 133, and American Legion Post 4.
