Jeffrey Curtis Bird

February 27, 1959 – June 1, 2026

MALAD CITY, IDAHO — Jeffrey Curtis Bird, 67, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, in Malad, Idaho, surrounded by his loving family. He fought a valiant, brief battle with stage 4 metastatic cancer after an unexpected diagnosis on April 1, 2026—a date he and his family later joked was the absolute worst April Fools’ joke ever played.

Jeff was born on February 27, 1959, in Logan, Utah, to David Lowell Bird and Barbara Petersen Bird. During his elementary school years, the family resided in Logan during the winters and spent their summers working on the family farm in Arbon Valley, Idaho. As he entered his freshman year, the family transitioned to living on the farm full-time. Jeff graduated from Malad High School and married his high school sweetheart, Irene Sorensen, on June 5, 1976. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan Utah Temple on February 13, 1981, anchoring their family in faith and eternal promises.

A lifelong resident of Arbon Valley, Jeff knew from a very young age that his heart belonged to the land. He was a dedicated, lifelong farmer who spent his years working side-by-side with his father and brothers. Jeff possessed a deep, sacred connection to his heritage and to the soil he cared for—a profound respect for the land that he successfully instilled in his sons, who truly loved to work alongside him.

Outside of farming, Jeff had a great passion for the outdoors and sports. He loved going hunting and spending time on the golf course, but his absolute favorite sport of all was watching his grandchildren play. He was their biggest fan, and nothing brought a brighter smile to his face than being on the sidelines or in the bleachers supporting them in all of their games and activities.

Jeff was a faithful and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved the Savior and served Him with his whole heart in many capacities throughout his life, including as a Cub Scout leader, Elders Quorum president, Young Men’s adviser, Sunday School teacher, and in the Bishopric, High Council, and as Bishop. Jeff took his priesthood responsibilities seriously and truly magnified every calling to the best of his ability, leaving a lasting impact on the youth and members he ministered to.

Though he achieved much in his life, Jeff always declared that his greatest accomplishment was his family. He cherished each individual relationship deeply, and he was profoundly loved and respected in return by his family and the many lives he touched.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Irene; their five children, Lance Bird, Terra (Brandon) Ward, Melanie (Dusty) Edwards, Blaine (Heather) Bird, and Mitchell (Kendra) Bird; and 20 cherished grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Barbara Bird; his brother, David Bird; and his beloved granddaughter, Brielle.
