IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David DeMar Nielsen, Jr.
May 23, 1964 – May 11, 2026
David DeMar Nielsen Jr. was born on May 23, 1964, in Malad, Idaho, to David DeMar Nielsen and Marjorie Ward, and he was raised there. He attended Malad Elementary and Malad High School, graduating in May 1982. He enjoyed football, basketball, and track, and played trombone in the high school band. He especially loved spending time outdoors. Some of his most treasured memories were made working on the family farm alongside his grandfather, Charles Nielsen; his father, David Nielsen; his brother, Bryan; his uncle, Elden; and his cousin, Kirk.
After graduating from high school, DeMar chose to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was called to the England Leeds Mission in 1983. When he returned home, he worked in construction on the Malad City 2nd Ward tabernacle.
He later worked at La-Z-Boy in Tremonton for 12 years before relocating to Logan, Utah.
During that time, DeMar joined a softball league, and it was there that he met the love of his life. At that game, she had actually come to watch someone else—but DeMar not only stole home, but he also stole her heart. They were married on August 4, 1990, in the Logan, Utah, Temple. They were married for 35 wonderful years, and their story only grew sweeter from there.
Together, they were blessed with three beautiful children: Jordan, Shaylee, and Bubba.
DeMar spent more than 30 years working in a variety of auto mechanic jobs before heart problems made it difficult for him to continue the strenuous physical labor he had done for so long.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, DeMar served in many callings, but the one he loved most was serving in the Primary. That love was reflected in the way he treasured his children and grandchildren, who were among the greatest joys of his life. He always had a story to tell or a video to share, and he especially adored his grandbabies.
DeMar was often known for being opinionated and direct, but to those who knew him best—especially his children—he was a big, gentle teddy bear. He would do anything for anyone, often going the extra mile to repair a vehicle or offer advice about a squeak, rattle, or leak. If DeMar teased you or gave you a hard time, it was his way of showing love. He was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife, Jordana (Richmond, Utah); Jordan, Kaulder, and Marjorie (North Carolina); Shaylee (Richmond, Utah); Brayden “Bubba” and Annie, Theo, and Madie (American Fork, Utah). Siblings, Pamela Nielsen (Murray, Utah); Bryan and Shelly Nielsen (Logan, Utah), and Kirstine and Brian Isaacson (Clinton, Utah); Steve and Angie Ross (South Jordan, Utah); and Eva Lou Nielsen (Malad, Idaho).
DeMar is preceded in death by his father, mother, grandparents, and other family members.
