Allen Jordan Brady
June 7, 1928 – February 7, 2026
Allen Jordan Brady was born June 7, 1928, in Downey, Idaho, on his Grandfather Jordan Brady’s birthday. He was the fifth of six children born to Hugh Brady and Flossie Mehetable Anderson Brady. Allen’s early years were happy with many friends in Virginia and eight years of grade school in Virginia. He subsequently attended four years at Downey High School where he was elected president of his Sophomore and Senior classes. Allen excelled at sports, playing on both the high school football and basketball teams.
After high school graduation, Allen attended two years at Brigham Young University, then decided to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He received a call to the Mexican Mission to enter the mission home in Salt Lake City on Dec. 5, 1948. “That came as a happy challenge” and proved to be one of the most cherished experiences of his life.
Allen returned to Brigham Young University in the fall of 1951.
That winter he went on a blind date to a BYU basketball game with Betty Jane Tanner. Allen and Betty were married September 8, 1952, at 10 pm in the Salt Lake Temple. They made their first home together in Virginia, Idaho in a little house owned by his parents where Allen started farming. The first few years were very lean, but they were very happy. They lived in the little house on the townsite of Virginia for 9 years and had three children join their family. In the fall of 1958 Allen began building his own home on his farm. On March 4, 1961, they were able to move in.
During his professional life, Allen raised sheep, milked cows, raised sugar beets, hay and potatoes. The most profitable endeavor was milking cows, so he built 2 milk barns and had almost 100 cows before the herd was sold in 1995 and he retired.
Allen was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and loved serving in the church. During his long life he had many opportunities to serve. Allen served as 2nd counselor to Bishop Keith Bennett for 9 years in the Virginia Ward and then as the 2nd Counselor to President H. Reed Cammack in the Arimo Idaho Stake Presidency for 9 years.
On May 1, 1977, Apostle Boyd K Packer came to the Arimo Idaho Stake Conference with the intention of reorganizing the Stake Presidency, which he did. However, after the business was done, Elder Packer returned to the pulpit where he announced that “I have been prompted to call President Allen Jordan Brady to be a Patriarch in this Stake. Sometimes we have as many as three Patriarchs in a Stake. You will now have two, if President Brady will accept.” Allen accepted the call and served faithfully in that position for 37 years. It is interesting to note that the grandfather that Allen was named after, and on who’s birthday he was born, was also a stake patriarch called from the audience in a similar unexpected manner.
Allen and Betty served faithfully as temple workers in the Logan Temple from 1996-2015. In later years Allen enjoyed working in his yard and growing a fruitful garden. He remained a faithful ministering brother and a good neighbor until his health required a move to the Ashford Assisted Living Center in Springville, Utah. He passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026.
Allen is survived by his children, John (Karen), Kathleen (Michael), Gay Lynn (David) and Shara (Mark), 19 grandchildren and 55 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Flossie Brady, his beloved wife, Betty, and 2 grandsons.
There will be a funeral to celebrate Allen’s life on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at noon in the Arimo Stake Center in Arimo, Idaho, with a viewing from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
