Laura Maxine Smith
October 9, 1932 – December 15, 2025

Arimo, Idaho – Laura Maxine George Smith, 93, wife of Alton C Smith, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, December 15. 2025.

Maxine was born on October 9, 1932, in Arimo, Idaho, a daughter of Horace Edward George and Annie Martha Howe George. She was raised and educated in Arimo, a graduate of Arimo High School, Class of 1950.

Maxine married her high school sweetheart, Alton C Smith on, June 1, 1950, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They made their home in Arimo, where Alton farmed with his father, Clinton Smith. Maxine supported the many demands of farming by preparing meals for the laborers, milking cows and many other tasks which surfaced both day and night. Maxine began a full-time career with the U.S. Postal Service in Arimo in 1976. After moving to Soda Springs in 1976, she continued with the U.S. Postal Service for 25 years. Alton and Maxine resided in Soda Springs for 30 years.

Maxine was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in several callings. Maxine and Alton served as full-time missionaries for the church in Nauvoo, Illinois. While serving there, Maxine served as a hostess in the restored homes and bakery.

Maxine is survived by her children, Annette (Dennis) Stowell of Bountiful, UT; Alan (Sandi) Smith of Afton, WY; Nalene (Lionel) Ware of Arimo, ID; Wendell (Jamie) Smith of McCammon, ID; Brent (Christina) Smith of Idaho Falls, ID; Dennis Smith of Pocatello, ID; and Teresa Smith of Arimo, ID; 21 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Arlene (Jim) Burnham, Pocatello, ID; and sister-in-law, Darlene Nelson of McCammon, ID.

She is preceded in death by her husband Alton Smith, parents Horace and Annie George; her sister Beverly (Glen) Andrews of Ontario, CA; and her granddaughter Paige Jons or Arimo, ID.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the great people at Symbii (hospice) for their wonderful loving care of Maxine.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 20,2025 at 11:00 A.M. in the Arimo LDS Stake Center. The Smith family will greet friends and relatives Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30 A.M. at the Arimo, Idaho LDS Church, 286 Henderson Ave prior to the service.
