Thelma Christina Clark Daniels was born on March 31, 1925, in Malad, Idaho, to Hugh LeRoy Clark and Sarah Belle Zundel. She had six older siblings and they lived in Woodruff, Idaho. The family was joined by five more siblings after mother’s birth. She passed away peacefully on January 14, 2014, at the home of her daughter and son in law’s in Boise, Idaho, where she had been living for the past two years. Mom was only five years old when she started school because the school in Woodruff only had two classes with four grades in each class and they needed one more person in the first grade. After graduating from the Woodruff Grade School, Thelma attended three years of high school in Malad, Idaho. She met the love of her life, Farrell Thain Daniels, at a friends’ home. Dad was there visiting the friend, and once he laid eyes on mom, he lost all interest in the other girl. It was love at first sight. They met again shortly thereafter at a dance in the LeGrande Hall in Malad. She was 16, a junior at Malad High School. He was 21 and had been attending college at the University of Idaho. They never dated anyone else after that dance. One month after meeting at the dance, they were engaged and one month later, on May 23, 1941, they were married. After a short honeymoon to the Twin/Shoshone Falls area, they made their home in Daniels, just north of Malad City, Idaho. They spent the next 70 years of their lives together as husband and wife. Mom and Dad’s first baby, Farrell LeRoy Daniels, was born February 17, 1942. He was born prematurely and lived only two hours. Lenore was born September 6, 1943. Farrell started building a house for his family at 577 Bannock Street. Just as the basement was complete, they moved in and Farrell was drafted to the United States Army. Shortly after Farrell was sent overseas on duty, their second son, Thayne, was born on October 10, 1945. Thelma and the kids lived in the unfinished home until her husband returned. A second daughter, Mary Sue, was born on January 15, 1951. They were sealed as a family for time and all eternity in the Logan Temple on April 14, 1961. Perhaps the greatest joy of her life was working on the farm side by side with Farrell day in and day out. She did this ever so well, and accomplished much with him, in addition to keeping an immaculate house. Not only did she help him on farm, but she loved working the cattle with him. They were always very involved at the rodeos, attended many bull sales together and took pride in holding their own annual bull sale in Malad for many years. Thelma derived great happiness in serving her God, her family, the community, and the state. Thelma served as president of the local Cowbelles organization in 1981. She also served as the Idaho State Cowbelle President in 1974, after serving as first and second vice president. She served in this capacity for three years. She served in the Primary, Relief Society, M.I.A. and Sunday School in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Years later, Farrell and Thelma served in the Logan temple as ordinance workers for several years. She leaves a legacy of unconditional love for her family, a place where life begins and love never ends. She is survived by children Lenore (Bruce) Green, Salinas, California; Thayne (Mary Ann) Daniels, Malad; Mary Sue (Ric) Jones, Boise; 15 beloved grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Ann Clark (David) Petersen, Santa Maria, California, and other family and friends who love her dearly. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 20, 2014 at the Malad LDS Stake Center Chapel. Friends and family are invited to the viewing at Horsley Mortuary on Sunday evening, January 19, 2014, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral.
