Virginia Call Wilkins, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, completed her journey here on this earth and passed on into immortality, August 1 2, 2001. Her frail body no longer had the required strength and succumbed to congestive heart failure brought on many years before. What a blessing to her family as they gathered around and witnessed her faith as mortal life quietly slipped away. Each family member kissed her cheek and expressed their tender love prior to her passing, knowing in their heart that he or she was her favorite. In truth, she had no favorites for she loved them all equally. She now has moved through this existence to rejoin her eternal companion, Ralph Moffitt Wilkins. Their love for each other was an example of what love should be. Their theme song in life was “Stop and Smell the Roses” and many nights we have heard them sing “Goodnight, Sweetheart, one more perfect day is through. Goodnight, Sweetheart, I am still in love with you.” Without Ralph she was not whole and though she loved us all, there was an infinite void in her life at his passing. Now reunited, they rejoice together with family and loved ones on the other side.
In health or in sickness her life brightened everyone she touched. She had a light that could be felt by all and countless friends flocked to her to feel of her warm spirit and love. Her life was one of faith and perfect obedience as she sought continually to do the right thing.
Born September 22nd. 1918, in Malad, Idaho, she was the daughter of William Odell Call and Bertha Robinson. She graduated from Weber High School in 1936. She served an LDS Mission to California and became acquainted with and later fell in love and married the love and light of her life, Ralph, who was also serving in California as a missionary. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on his birthday. August 28, 1941, and began a long and beautiful life together. They were married 57 years prior to Ralph s passing.
Virginia had an innate desire for learning. She returned to the University of Utah to obtain her Bachelor’s Degree in education and graduated from the University in 1962 the same year that her daughter graduated from high school. She taught elementary school for 22 years until her retirement in 1984.
Throughout her life she continually loved to read and study. She was very well informed on current events and politics and especially loved to study about her church. Her life was an example of service. She held many positions of leadership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She especially loved the Young Women’s Program and at the time of her demise she was acting as a specialist to the Young Women in the area of personal progress. She and Ralph served a second mission to Hawaii as directors of Family History for the Hawaiian Islands. While there they fell in love with this beautiful land and returned many times for recreation and reminiscing.
Virginia is survived by her children: Valeen Zumbrunnen (Dean), Ronald R. Wilkins (Kathy); grandchildren, Heidi Eazarski (Bob), Brad, Lori Amy. Kristen Okland (Brett), Kimberly Kaelin (Abraham), Justin, Jennifer, and seven great grandchildren, her brother John R Call (Betty), sister-in-law, Winnona Adams, and brother- in -law, Wayne (Flora). She was pre-ceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother Van O. Call and her sister Diana Kimose.
Funeral services will be held at 1 2 noon Thursday, August 16, at the Wasatch 5th Ward, 8100 South Top of the World Drive. Friends may call Wednesday evening at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive from 6-8 P.M. and on Thursday from 10:30 to 1 1:45 A.M. prior to the service
